The Manifold Creation

The daffodils, tulips and dogwood are making way for cone flowers, peonies and delphiniums. Beauty giving way to more beauty. God's forever gifting of loveliness and elegance. It is just so stunning the diversity of creation. Can you ever imagine being told that only three flowers accurately display God's kingdom? Or that only flowers from this particular part of the world are important?

It seems one of our issues with God's incredible diversity is that it is so mind-blowingly unbelievable, it is hard for us to make sense of it. So, we try desperate to categorize and list everything that and in the end, exclude. We just can't label it all!

We do this with God's amazing creation called humankind.

There are those who think they can sum up all of human experience into a binary. They just cannot image the God of the Naked Man Orchid could every create a human being in any other way than man and woman and that these two must behave exactly like two boring heterosexual baby makers.

That the God of 91 different hummingbirds could ever create human beings in the same diversity. There are those who just cannot celebrate someone who has no inkling for a relationship, are happy with friends and their work, and their other interests. That the God of the psychotria eleta could ever make a human being who could fall in love with whoever they desire. That two men could be in a lifelong relationship. Or that God created our skin, hair, and stature in so many variable ways that it cannot, and should not, be categorized!

This Pride Month let us celebrate the diversity that is God's creation and revel in the sublimity of our neighbor. As the Apostle Paul in his letter the Galatians reminds us: There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. God created human kind in God's own image - that means you are made in that image and let no one tell you otherwise.
